Santiago Day 6

When we come to Chile, we're Chilean. Now the world cup is over for them, so much sadness! this weekend.. we're off to BUENOS AIRES! and that means.... WE'RE ARGENTINIAN and the world cup is still ONNNN!! w00ttt to the maxxx!! lol. i think world cup is so much more fun when you're in the area, you can FEEL the excitement in the city, it's ridiculous. the only time you can kind of feel that is when it's superbowl time, but even then.. only parts of the US can celebrate. here.. the entire COUNTRY goes crazy.

Anywho, today was our first spanish class and then lab right after. When we got to class the professor gave us a blank piece of paper and gave us instructions in spanish, and we weren't allowed to talk to each other when time started to write stuff. stupid me.. i thought it was like.. art time status automatically so i wrote my name SUPER huge in the middle of the page, in PEN. and of course.. it was supposed to be a writing assignment to assess how much we knew. obviously.. i knew nada -________-. AND she showed it to the whole class so it was super embarassing. ugh. then we got our lab coats and did bacteria growth (?) in lab. i wasn't even sure what we were doing but i'm 90% sure i did it wrong. ahhh, i'll find out tomorrow!
couldn't eat all my fudz :( apricot crepe, rice and beef stew stuff, egg soup, and pear juice. all stuff i didn't really like... :(
sad asian kids getting fed bad fudz :(

After lunch i just came back to the hotel and napped/watched HBO for a few hours. D-rell bought me a new converter (what a sweetie :D) and then we went to dinnah. ITALLISIMO! very cheap, very close, very nomz. our new eating place! teehee. After we went on a journey for bowling! it was actually a very nice place and i even got 3 strikes in 1.5 games! i think that's a record.. but i got no spares, so my score wasn't any better. lol, i'm so inconsistent. Now it's time for packing because we're off to Argentina tomorrow at 3:30! so excited!
pizza y calzone. nom nomz :9
Gnocchi (sp?) potato pasta type stuff... darryl wanted to try SO bad
bowlinz! Lea, Jason y Yo.
Had so much funz! can't wait to do it again soon :)

Santiago Day 6

Ughhh, today was like the hardest time waking up. i broke my converter two days ago and i haven't bought a new one yet so i asked darryl to charge my camera for me. he forgot, of course so i have no pictures today. good thing it was a EXTREMELY SUPER chill day.

We had our first real day of class today which was good, except it was so early in the morning. We had lunch in the cafeteria and i forced down plain lettuce & tomato in attempt to add fiber to the diet :P We came back to the hotel where i napped and then off to this really fancy mall really far away (like 12 subway stops). everyone just bought "essentials" and then we ate at the food court. lol, it just sounds like another day in irvine.
our lecture room with Professor Mora.
(photo stolen from Darryl)
i've taken pictures of all my meals but since i just had taco bell today and i didn't have a camera, this is to give you an idea of what it looked like.. but it was smaller. hahah

going to bed early today because yesterday was so tiring.. not physically.. just whole not sleeping part. lol

Santiago Day 5

OUR FIRST SLEEP IN DAY!!! went to sleep at 3am last night and woke up at 11:45am.. hahahah, i'm such a bum. a bunch of us just went to the fish market again and ate at Augusto. we watched the first half of the Chile vs. Brasil game, but Brasil scored two goals. it was so sad. As we were walking to the presidential plaza they scored again which was the end of the game, 3-0 Brasil. the city was SUPER sad and quiet after that. we just came back and have been chilling in the hotel for awhile now.
view from the second floor of the fish market.
our table at Augusto.
i didn't take a picture of my roast beef sandwich but this is Darryl's seafood Paella.

We just ended up going to the market for dinner and the hotel warmed our food up in the microwave for us. i got a vegetable lasagna because i need more greens. lol.. i can't poop very well here. anyway, we also got a bunch of beers and had bonding time in Adrian and Amir's room.

Valparaiso Day 4

It's been a long day of travelling back and forth from the beach again. first the subway, tur bus, bus, trolley, bus, bus, tur bus, subway, and finally back home to the hotel! we went to a big beach city called valparisio, which was SUPER hilly. the coastal town we went to was called Con con.. or something like that. we ate there and went HORSEBACK RIDING! can be better explained with pictures :)

La Isla Negra Day 3

Today we met at 9am to go to the shore, about a 2 hour drive. The city is called La Isla Negra and it's a very small beach town. The first stop was this famous poet, Paulo Neruda. He was a collector of things.. literally really weird things. we weren't allowed to take pictures inside of the house, but it was full of figureheads, ships in bottles, glasses, little guitars, bugs, shells, bottles, pretty much anything that interested him. he even had a room for a paper mache horse and the house had to be extended several times to fit all this things. lol. but the view from his house was absolutely stunning.

his backyard.

his symbol. "Neruda"

his house from the "backyard" where he's buried.

Afterwards, we got back on the bus and drove out for about another hour to this even smaller village where we had AUTHENTIC Chilean food. delish.. but a lot of corn was involved with the meal. lol. then we went shopping around the little booths and stores. mental note: must buy a cowboy hate before i leave.

our table.

empanada. noms.

postre... something. mashed up corn with minced meat and chicken.

Peach dessert.. with corn, but i got raspberry/vanilla ice cream.

Darryl bought a beanie.

we're supposed to go out tonight.. bar hopping with our guide, Carla. i'll update if we do :)

editt://

We went to our first restaurant alone! we ordered pizza and paid the bill&tip and it was a success!

i got a pepperoni pizza after guessing! :D

So we ended up going to La bellavista and drankkk then went to a bar! i only had two drinks.. one mai tai at this house of blues type rip off. and then we walked around to find a place to go dancing! it was probably one of the funnest clubs i ever went to even though i didn't understand most of the music. Carla got us into the VIP section and it was cool! we got to go to the upper level and drink and dance the night away. and we went home in the taxi which was kind of funny when he dropped us off because we wouldn't get out of the car. went to sleep at 3:30am.. such a fun/late night!

darryl's beer.
my pink mai tai! :)

no pictures from clubbing, but it was funnnnnn! :D

Santiago Day 2

early start today at 8:40am and visited the school for the first time via the subway! it's a pretty small school but it's really cozy feeling. Maria showed us around and everyone on campus was getting all hyped up for the game! we had our orientation and they took pictures of us and we sat in our lecture hall for the first time.

Turbus time! i kind of fell asleep for a portion of the tour, but it was just going through the history of the buildings and stuff. we stopped twice and walked through the plaza de armas, where the president works and they were setting up for the world cup game they were going to show later on. when we walked further down it was like an outdoor mall and we walked through the fish market where we got hella harassed by people trying to get us to eat at their place. the second stop was the municipalidad de santiago parque municipal. i'm not sure what the guide was telling us about it but it looked like this old school fort with old cannons and everything. we climbed to the super duper top of the hill where the view was B-E-A-utiful! my thighs are still burning, but on the bus ride tour i fell asleep for awhile. we ended back at the hotel after another 30minutes or so and watched the first half of the world cup game, Chile vs. Spain. Spain ended up winning 2-1, but Chile should've won because Spain's goals were cheap. hahah, i'm just biased. For the second half we went to the plaza de armas again and it was freaking crazy!

doggies dressed up in the plaza de armas. cute!

me and darryl at the parque. :)

look how high we climbed! and we went up even fartherrr. i have thunder thighs now :P

la plaza de armas with the giant screen and watching the Chile vs. Spain game. backyard of the president's office.

Afterwards we just got back to the hotel and hung out until it was dinner time in which we went to this ocean themed restaurant. it was kind of expensive but i got a seafood soup which was really good except for some crab shell at the bottom of the bowl. ick. bonding time at the hotel was fun because we just sat around in the hallway and talked and played card games for a few more hours.. i broke my converter trying to fit it into the outlet behind my bed :( it was only $4 but i don't want to go through the trouble and going out to buy a new one -______________-;;

dinner time at the ocean themed restaurant.

mah fudz! :)

time for sleep now! we have a field trip to the beach tomorrow :)

Santiago Day 1

24 full hours of travelling and finally got to the hotel in Santiago. It was pretty hectic considering that I thought the flight for here was at 7pm, but it was actually at 12:35pm. it kind of cut short my last minute shopping where i wanted to buy socks, a journal and a pop-up hamper. So woke up at 7am in Irvine went to SD, by 9am got to the airport at 10:30am, and checked in by 12:00pm and was on board on time! yey.

Dallas was another adventure. Darryl and i were so hungry from not eating since dinner the day before and our meal was at fuddruckers in the airport almost 24 hours later :( after four hours of waiting finally boarded the plane for Santiago at 8:30pm. plane was almost empty but we still slept together after watching the tooth fairy. Hectic arrival at 7:30 and found the bus, and got to the hotel by 9:30. whew!

i met stacey, my roommate and just took a nap and hung out with DennyGYeh until 3:30pm which was when we went around the city for a brief introduction. it's so busy here! big stray dogs walking around and it's SUPER cold. i withdrew $375.00 and bought little things like a SIM card and outlet adapter.

Dinner at this really fancy restaurant at the top of the hill at the edge of the city was our next meal in 12 hours. (this eating schedule is NOT healthy) but it was a good salmon with soup and dessert. i don't have pictures today but i will be more aware and take a lot tomorrow. :)
